  • Not my cup of tea at all - there is not one thing I liked about this book. Don't judge a book by its cover!1

    Misque Well....where do I begin???

This is my first read of this author. I was quite enticed by the cover and also the blurb on the back of the book. It also seemed to review quite well but as I am not a huge fan of BDSM I thought I would download the first chapter using the Kindle sample feature to see what I thought and whether I thought it was worth taking a risk on. The first chapter was great. I like to think I am quite open minded but admit I did find the first encounter with the urinating amongst other things in the face (and the whole encounter) a bit shocking. I knew after the first encounter that it was going to be quite hardcore but I was intrigued, liked what I was reading and the way in which the author told the story at that point so I went ahead and ordered the paperback. What a mistake! After enjoying Chapter 1 it all went downhill from there because the rest of the book did not live up to or match the start of the book. I kept thinking to myself, if I keep reading it will pick up and go somewhere and there will be some more shocking but intriguing stuff along the way. So as I am not one to give up on a book before the end I went on...but in all truth I thought it was absolute rubbish, not very sexy (to my mind) and totally unbelievable.

When I bought the book I thought it would kind of go like this: girl gets captured/kidnapped by pirates and is taken on a journey meeting other pirates and all kinds of people where she basically would get up to all sorts and we would be told of her encounters. But it was nothing like that at all and was VERY disappointing indeed. It is quite a slow book in my opinion and I can't understand for the life of me how or why she went along with everything which was against her nature, with no inhibition or resistance, falling in love in the process and so happily falling into line and their way of doing things as a supposed captor or whatever she was meant to be.

This book is very heavy on the BDSM front and was just too much for me in the end. Yes, some of it was okay and I could sort of see the appeal but some of it was just beyond me and I actually thought some of it was totally gross, which is a first. There is one particular scene (or part of it) that springs to mind and everytime I think about it I feel queasy put it that way. Like I said, I am quite open-minded and not a prude - I can read most things of an erotic nature and take some kind of pleasure away in reading it but this was awful.

As I said before, in the beginning I quite like the author's style of writing - I thought it was very pretty initially but it soon became annoying. I felt like she was trying to dazzle me with her knowledge with all these fancy words and comparisons and I'll be honest, half the time I did not know what she was talking about. It often veered off into her rambling which I thought she merely used to fill up the chapters and I just couldn't follow what was happening. I kept having to re-read and re-read to understand and build up a mental image in my head of what I was reading so I could understand it and enjoy it, but in the end I just couldn't and ended up just reading over these bits pretty quickly when I got to them.

The author also has a habit of repeating certain naughty words for shock factor, over and over again and it just gets a little bit tedious. Also, she kept reflecting and repeating what had happened in the very first chapter in summaries designed to shock/excite, when you were well into the book. I just felt like she was trying to live off the character's very first encounter and tried to milk it for all she could.

If you have stuck with my review so far, well done haha - I hadn't intended to write so much. I had my eye on this book for a while before buying it and after being enticed by the cover, reading the first chapter and the glowing reviews on here I took the plunge but I honestly can't remember reading anything as bad a this.

Oh well, lesson learned and on to the next. by Misque
