You'll never get the hours spent reading this back.
The hype surrounding Twilight sneaked up on me - suddenly there were movies and twi-hards and all these screaming teens and I hadn't even realised Twilight the book existed. As a lover of fantasy and science fiction, I felt it was necessary to at least give it a go, despite my reservations. Part of me had hoped to be proved wrong.
As an intelligent female, I found Twilight insulting. The writing (as opposed to the plot) is extremely immature - I found the narrative to be as well written as a low-grade Year 8 English creative essay. The characters are two dimensional, and seem unable to form any of their own initiative. Any male characters who are not Edward are portrayed as being simple, slow, an wildly unobservant of the world around them. Edward should be the anti-hero for young girls! He is overprotective, isolates Bella, and treats her as though she is completely helpless.
Bella is also poorly written and have the charisma of a plank of wood.
Want vampires with bite? Try Charlaine Harris. Twilight is weak, spineless, and may as well have been written by a thirteen year old. by Amy Lay -
