  • Fascinating way to tell a textured and intertwined story5

Lea Walters I read your story about the Irish father and his 3 boys, Alex, Charlie and Jack. Fascinating way to tell a textured and intertwined story, you kept my attention and my sympathy for these boys and their mother at the hands of a drunken father. It was haunting and sad but stimulating in it?s understanding. Thank you. by Lea Walters

Jay I had the great good fortune to read Jean Gilhead's 'Living in Bright Shadows' in manuscript.

It's a wonderful book, beautifully crafted and beautifully written, and also (and much more importantly) it's 'of the spirit' and 'of the heart'.

'Living in Bright Shadows' is a family saga and has all the depth and breadth of a family saga. The telling of the saga, though, is completely original and unique. Instead of unfolding the story chronologically, 'Living in Bright Shadows' develops its narrative in episodes that have the intensity of lyric poems.

The narrative emerges from a mosaic of brilliant individual stories, and the book is all the more moving and powerful because the family connections and revelations surprise the reader.

'Living in Bright Shadows' is a literary tour de force, and a powerful spiritual document full of humanity and warmth. by Jay

Jean Gilhead A 20th Century, four-generational novella - set in Italy, Ireland, England and Spain:
The Fusciardis, who travelled from Italy to Ireland at the tail-end of the 19th Century, the Devlins living in Belfast and London from the `40s to the `90s, and the Buchanan-Trees in Spain in current time.

Spanning four generations, the stories twist and tumble around the lives and families of two estranged sisters, Isabella and Sofia Fusciardi.

Love and loss, deceit, ignorance and childhood trauma, seven stand-alone but interlinked stories based on dark and complex aspects of human relationships within families.

The saga opens in 2007 during preparations for a London television retrospective on the life and death of Jack Devlin, world-famous artist. Before he died, Jack wrote a poem for friends and family about his unconventional life...
