The Boleyns from a new angle
This is a fascinating and very enjoyable look at the 'Other Boleyn Girl': Mary Boleyn, sister of the famous Queen. There is not much to know about Mary, so this book is short. Nor is it a biography in the proper sense of the word, but an academic analysis of Mary's relationship with Henry VIII and her family, especially Anne. Wilkinson's points are well argued and the question of whether Henry VIII was the father of Mary's two children is finally and convincingly answered. The book is well written in an easily accessible style. It is also beautifully illustrated. To highlight just one: there is a portrait of Mary's first husband, William Carey, which the author was allowed to use by permission of a descendant of the Carey family. Mary Boleyn belongs on the bookshelf of anyone interested in the Boleyn family and Henry VIII. by Cassandra Halkyn
