The Underdog(coyote) Stirkes Again
I love Patricia Briggs, both the Mercy Thompson books and the Alpha and Omega. But Mercy Thomson is special to me because she is the smallest, least dangerous supernatural creature you have ever come accross in any paranormal book, yet she somehow always manages to save the day - believably!
She is so overlooked by the big bad wolves and the other various badies that when she actully does strike back, the surprise of it hurts them as much as the blow itself. It's delicious!
Also worthy of mentioning is the understated yet incredibly, tenderly passionate love between her and Adam - who is exactly the kind of mate that every strong independent woman needs; there when you need him, but gives plenty of space to breathe.
And as a special bonus for all the fateful fans of Samuel - he finally gets to hope for a happyending of his own! Yey, go team! by Dela -
Best in the Series so Far
I agree with others who have said this was the best in the series so far. It’s certainly my favourite. I think what I loved most was that loose ends which had been on going for a few books were tied up.
Like Sam. This was really Sam’s book. For a while now he’s been on the edge and it’s finally addressed in this one. For Sam fans, this will blow your mind. Through him we also learn a lot about what being a werewolf is like.
It also concentrated more on Adam and Mercy’s growing relationship. It’s been a lovely slow build but this book took it even deeper.
The ‘bad guy’ is back to the fae. Always a thrilling pleasure. Mercy has something they want, and want it badly, but must not let them get. She has to not only keep it safe, but look out for her friends, and herself.
This is a good example of an excellent urban fantasy novel. One of the best I’ve read in a while and I’m so looking forward to the next one. Fans won’t be disappointed and newcomers have some incentive to read the rest of the series first! You’ll enjoy the series if you like Ilona Andrews, Kelley Armstrong, Kim Harrison etc. by Fiona Connolly -
Maybe Tomorrow? Review
(Read the full review at http://xxbetty.blogspot.com/)
Mercy Thompson is supposed to be enjoying her happily ever after. Finally coming to terms with her mating to the local packs alpha, Adam, they've come to a happy agreement so not to disturb the current calm amongst the pack who mostly believe she shouldn't be there. She's a coyote shifter, not a werewolf. But Mercy isn't going to let that bother her, that is until someone within the pack threatens her bonding link with Adam.
Not only does she have to contend with the grumblings of the pack, there's also the little matter of an overdue book to return. Though this isn't your average library book. This is a book of the Fae's, and contains a serious amount of magic. When she tries to return the book she finds the store empty and closed down. Just as hard as she's trying to return it, there are those trying harder to take it away from her. And they'll stop at nothing to ensure they get their hands on it.
Meanwhile Mercy's roommate, and lone wolf, Samuel has been acting not quite himself putting Mercy in the position of debating whether Bran, the Marrock and Samuel's father, should be made aware of his situation.
So there's disturbance with the pack directed at her, a rouge Fae on the hunt for her and the book she's holding and the little matter of Samuel's life in her hands. Just another normal week for Mercy? by Beth
