    Jessica Whalen Jennifer Armintrout is the author of the popular Blood Ties series. Though I have heard of her previous books, Queene of Light is the first that I have read. As with any author that is new to me, I went in with neutral expectations. Ultimately, I quite enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

    I really enjoyed Jennifer's writing. She described the Light and Darkworlds so colorfully that I was able to visualize the story as I read it. The back story behind how the Lightworld and Darkworld came to existence was intriguing, though remains somewhat of a mystery.

    My favorite character of the book was surprisingly a secondary character, though a very likeable one at that. Keller was a cheeky, spirited man who brought energetic life to the story. On the other hand, Queene Mabb and her brother Garret elicited very strong emotions of a different nature.

    The biggest disappointment for me was the romance between the main characters, Malachi-a "fallen angel" of sorts-and Ayla, the bad-ass halfling Lightworld assassin. I found their relationship to be very...hollow. It was like...they were curious about one another, and then all of a sudden "did it" and then they were in love. There was no courting, no romance. And the love scene was horrendously disappointing. I'll admit, I enjoy a bit of "smut" in my romance novels, but only when they are full of passion and made to express the couples' fervent desires for one another. Unfortunately, the fiery burn of passion did not leave a mark this time around.

    It felt like the love story between Malachi and Ayla was supposed to take center stage, but Ayla's struggle to secure her place in the Lightworld was the most alluring aspect of this novel. The story is full of deceit and mystery, which ultimately made for a fascinating read and the whole story wrapped up marvelously in the very last paragraph.

    And the book cover...I love it. What else is there to say?

    Overall, Jennifer Armintrout is a fresh new voice to the paranormal community and successfully created a stimulating, unique new world for all to enjoy. Though I don't feel that this booked lived up to its full potential, I am nonetheless eagerly excited to move onto the second book, Child of Darkness.
