A very readable, yet scholarly biography
I am currently reading The Gift of Wings, a biography of Lucy Maud Montgomery by Mary Rubio. It is a very readable, informative account of Montgomery's personal life. The author draws upon the personal journals and diaries of the famous author and I am learning things about her that are of great interest to me, personally, particularly that she suffered from bouts of severe depression throughout her life. Despite this, through determination, she was able to pen a wealth of poems, short stories, and novels, most of which were published. Contained within the pages of this biography are morsels of interesting information about such notable Canadians as Earl Grey, Governor General of Canada and Dr. Andrew McPhail. Mention is made also of Dr. John McRae. For anyone interested in Canadian history, this is a pleasant way to learn things that one might not otherwise have the opportunity to discover. by Marilyn Crosbie
