Geektastic = 4 Stars
This book is made up of one short story from each of the individual authors (except for the first story which is written by Black and Castellucci and the story by the Leitich Smiths). Between each story is a (brilliant) humorous one page graphic cartoon. I should add that not all of the stories are actually funny, some are very touching, and almost all of them deal with real teen issues.
You don't have to get every single little reference in this book to find it enjoyable and funny. You don't have to be smart or nerdy or geeky or anything! You just need a half-decent sense of humor and you need to be able to relate to the characters; and with the talent of these authors, that's easy!
My favourite stories from this anthology were those by Cassandra Clare, Garth Nix and David Levithan. Scott Westerfeld's (who I usually LOVE) story went over my head a bit, but I liked the philosophical side of it. I hate to pick on one author, but I have to be honest: Kelly Link's story was quite disappointing.
Overall, despite my hate of short stories (they just aren't long enough!) I thoroughly enjoyed reading Geektastic. It's hard to rate the book when I loved some stories and not others... but for the overall enjoyment factor I give it 4 stars out of 5. by Amy Mansell
