The Countess by Rebecca Johns
The Countess is a wonderful story on the life of Countess Elizabeth Bathory. Known as the Blood Countess she was an extradinay beauty who was also brilliantly clever. Her story starts with her in her cell. A tower room which she was walled into. The Countess writes her story to her son and so we learn of her life. One of love and loss. Of a belief in her self to be right because of the position she was born into. A position that brings out an unbalivible cruelty. Yet you can't help but feel sorry for her. Rebecca Johns has done a wonderful story of the life and death of The Countess. She has managed to make you feel as if you have been transported back in time to view this remarkable woman's life. Also you get to experience the life of the servants in her employment. Those with no power and those with a little and how they deal with it. This is a book to be read again and again. by April Hollingworth
