  As the first book of the series this book has to lay down the foundations of the story and so is the weakest book in the series. It does have action and intrique and a very strong plot, but its development is a little bit tedious at times. However, this pays dividends in the later books which absolute page turners. The series is very good and to tell the truth this book won't sell you on it, you could take it or leave it, but the second and subsequent novels are really really good and I would definitely reccomend this to anybody who is a fantasy reader. by Alan Kirwan
