Could Have Been a True Story
This is my first read of Lisa Jewell's and I've found that she does have a way of creating very real feeling characters. This is a contemporary women's book that features three people and how their lives intertwine. I felt that the majority of the book focused on Lydia, although numerically that may not be true - there may have been an equal section of the book devoted to each of the characters, but it felt as if it was all based around her. That might be because she was the most interesting character as well. Dean and Robyn both had different things going on, but they weren't characters I would want to read about again.
The storyline and how the three characters are connected becomes obvious right away, but this isn't a mystery or suspense novel. It is written well in the aspect that this could have been a true story and these people could exist in our world right now. I didn't feel very connected to the story or the characters though and that's where it is missing out for me. It lacked that special something that grabs me and makes me want to flip page after page to become immersed in the story.
