Paranormalcy Review
The first ten pages of Paranormalcy gave me proof that this book would be one funny, thrilling experience. I couldn't stop laughing along with the funny and fast paced dialog. Along with Evie's bedazzled pink weaponry and her bold and unique personality. Even though the synopsis doesn't convey the humor that is filled in this book, i knew this book would be one hell of a ride.
Evie works for the IPCA, which keeps track of paranormals (you name it, vampires, zombies, faeries, mermaids, etc). Her job is to put tracking devices on them and bring them back to the council. The conversations she has with paranormals are hilarious, specifically with her faerie ex-boyfriend Reth, who at first i thought i would like, but later on turned to be obsessive and psychotic. I especially hated the way he spoke, all poetic like, making him a bigger douche than he already is.
When Lend, our water boy, literally, broke into the IPCA and was captured by none other than our bedazzle girl, i was wary of his motive. I didn't know if he was good or bad, also his shape shifting to women creeped me out. When Evie started going to him where he was held up and we got to know more about him and his personality, that feeling of wariness turned into full on crushing, at least that's what went on with Evie.
I love Kiersten White's writing. She captures you and holds your interest from beginning to end. I honestly did not find a boring part in the whole book. It was packed with fun, adventures, likeable characters, and enough mystery to keep you hooked. I would recommend this book to anyone who reads YA, i think this would appeal to a wide range of readers. by Juhina & FarahDissatisfactory
The plot was average, and definitely cliche. The problems the protagonists met along the way were kind of conveniently solved that it took quite a bit of the fun away. Add to that, some of the scenes and dialogues were pretty ridiculous and overly-mushy, it gave me goose pimples.
Story aside, let's talk about the characters. The female protagonist worshipped the color pink. Not that I am against pink, it's that squealing at and donning glittery pink satin dresses is just isn't my thing, y'get what I'm saying? And she isn't as cool as what the synopsis got me to think, so she didn't live up to my expectations. At all. So no, I didn't like this aspect of the story. And since she IS the female PROTAGONIST, I had to flip through three hundred odd pages of her gay-ness and incompetence, I couldn't find it in me to like her.
One plus point though - White can be a killer comedian. Lol, I really liked her humor, that I can give credit. You have to read it to believe it, people, haha.
To wrap things up, this book didn't quite do it for me. After getting to the THE END, I felt...nothing. So emotionally barren. Which is not right, cause after reading a book (or should I say, MOST good books) I'll usually have this whole barrage or myriad of feelings bombarding me that I'll stone and sit there thinking about what I've just read. This one didn't.
When I start a series, I'd usually follow through but this time after reading both this book and the synopsis of the next book, SUPERNATURALLY, I think I'll pass. But I do still want to congratulate White for getting the movie deal. It sure is a major step-up in her career. Cheers! by CYPA great read!
This book has appeared on so many blogs lately that I just had to see what all the fuss was about.
Finishing it in less than two days, I can pretty much say that I enjoyed it! Although initially I found the story aimed at a slightly younger reader than I had expected, I soon found myself wrapped up in the tale of Evie and her life at the IPCA. Although I read solely during breakfast and at night in bed, I found it difficult to put down.
I was instantly drawn to young Evie and the weird and wonderful paranormal characters that surrounded her odd life. I was desperate to know what would become of her. Kiersten White did not disappoint with this book and I will certainly buy her next one, Supernaturally.

Now here's something completely different!after all the other books of the fiction category, Paranormalcy surely was something refreshing!
What i liked the most was the fact that Kiersten White wasn't afraid to use her imagination!she has a unique way of presenting her story, like you can actually see all those heroes taking form and their existence is an acual fact, while describing the life of Evie amongst the faeries, mermaids, werewolves,vampires and all the other fantasy characters. At the same time, she creates a story of self-discovery, friendship, love, adventure, with lots of twists and turns!
Surely, is a very enjoyable book for readers of all ages!I was very thrilled with the characters and the plot, the little inside jokes and the energy and excitement that Evie shared with all of us!A must for all readers! by amalia
