Full description for What Did the Ancient Israelites Eat?

  • Drawing on biblical, archaeological, anthropological, and environmental evidence, MacDonald (Old Testament, U. of St. Andrews, Scotland) presents a scholarly examination of what the ancient Israelites ate and how healthy or unhealthy their diet may have been. He concludes with an analysis of several contemporary books that advocate a return to "biblical" eating, and reflects on what the Old Testament might have to say about eating and drinking today. Recognizing a current wide public interest in archaeology and gastronomy, MacDonald has written the text to be accessible to the general public, but has also included extensive notes and a substantial bibliography at the back of the book for scholars and other readers interested in knowing the basis for his arguments and observations.
