Short Description for The Tiger That Isn'tMathematics scares and depresses most of us, but politicians, journalists and everyone in power use numbers all the time to bamboozle us. Most of it is commonsense, and by using a few really simple principles one can quickly see when maths, statistics and numbers are being abused to play tricks which can waste millions of pounds.

    A UK Freakonomics?5

James Hodson Well-written introduction to the common problems with statistics and their reportage in the media.

While it is in the same vein as 'Freakonomics', it is less bombastic and focusses more on the validity of the numbers and statistics we see in the newspapers supporting often unfounded claims, and how they can sometimes (even unwittingly) go wrong.

One memorable quote: "Awareness of the frailty of numbers begins with a ready acknowledgement of the erratic ways of people." by James Hodson

Konstantins Golevs I like this book, because i like math and this book explains (in simple manner) how the statistics work and how they are manipulated by everyone who is interested in gaining something. by Konstantins Golevs
