    Sonya Matheson I finally got around to reading this book which so many people have talked to me about. A most interesting book; written from the perspective of 'Death' who is quite an amiable and likeable character. Even though 'Death' pre-empts his (I perceive it as a male) own story of 'The Book Thief', it does not ruin the emotion of the story or the events that lead to each outcome. The young girl's tragic circumstances are seen through her positivity and living in the 'now'. The book is interspersed with hand drawn images and text that make the writing of the Jewish man in hiding seem more real. 'Death' viewing of things as colours makes this a very sensual novel. It totally agree with the review by 'Kirkus Reviews' printed on the back cover. "Elegant, philosophical and moving. A work to read slowly and savour. Beautiful and important." This is written so beautifully and descriptive that some of the paragraphs are worth reading twice or thrice. by Sonya Matheson
