Amazing, eye-opening, heart-breaking
I read this book in just over one sitting. This book took a hold of me in a way I couldn't have imagined. It moved me and will resonate with me forever.
I'm a strong-willed person, more like determined and stubborn, so at first I didn't get why she never escaped. But as I continued to read, I could get inside her head and understand why she didn't, how Phillip's psychological manipulation was so horrible -- and that's beside the appalling, and continual rape of Jaycee as a minor.
I am so happy that Jaycee shared her story not because I want to see her in the news and exploited all over again but it gives people courage and builds inner strength.
The quality of writing does feel more simple, maybe even lesser, compared to other bestselling fiction books. However, at the same time, that's what makes her story read so well and draws the reader in. I've read so many reviews where people have read it in one sitting.
I like her comment about wanting to write a best-seller because I bought the book in the hope I contribute to her dream. She deserves it. This book gave me hope! And I definitely feel guilty about feeling bad about myself now, because she carries on as such a hopeful person despite her experiences.
I recommend this book to anyone because everyone at least has family or friends and this book shows how love can carry you through some of the toughest experiences. by Rebecca Berto
