• This text is a collection of 21 colloquium papers given in 1994, the centenary of the death and respectively respectviely of Sir Charles Newton (1816-94) and Professor Bernard Ashmole (1894-1988). A number of the essays included review and add to their research, focussing in particular on Harlicarnassus, Cnidus and Rhodes, while others present the fruits of new excavations in the area, conducted by scholars from Turkey, Greece, Italy and Scandanavian countries.
