Full description for Pride and Prejudice
'It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.' With this famously ironic exclamation, Jane Austen draws us into the remarkable story of the five Bennet sisters and their search for personal happiness and suitable marriages First published in 1813 and originally to have been titled 'First Impressions', Pride and Prejudice was Austen's most popular work in her own lifetime and remains today one of the best-loved novels of English Literature. The deceptively complex plot is full of suspense, surprises and beautiful characters, so real they seem to literally jump off the page. The pride of Darcy and the prejudice of Elizabeth are mirrored by that of their supporting cast in a world where the truth is often clouded by class, money and intrigue but, in the end, cannot be denied.
