Enthralling!
I found this book utterly engrossing. My prior knowledge of the players in the fall of the Russian Empire was basic at best, but Massie manages to draw a complex series of historical and political events together with a great love story and the tale of one family and their personal triumphs and tragedies. The sense of impending doom in each fateful decision and the confluence of circumstance is painful.
This book is a non-fiction that reads as well as any great novel!
