Short Description for Music for TorchingPaul and Elaine have two boys and a beautiful home, yet they find themselves thoroughly, inexplicably stuck. Obsessed with 'making things good again', they spin the quiet terrors of family life into a fantastical frenzy that careens well and truly out of control.

Petra Robertson I first fell in love with A.M. Homes' writing after reading 'This Book Will Save Your Life'. The book saved my life! Well it at least gave me an author to admire and to trust. She always delivers. She writes like no one else. She writes in an honest, brave (sensitive readers might think offensive is a more appropriate word...) way. The people in her stories are messed up but messed up like normal people are messed up. She describes the real world like no one else dares to do.

This is the second novel by Homes that I've read, but I've read her amazing short stories collections and her other books are waiting on my book shelf to be my next reads.

Homes is something special. Hers are the only stories that I wish I'd written. But I couldn't have. No one can write like her. She's one of a kind. She keeps you tied in and you want to continue reading and reading, enjoying the story and the writing style. And when you've finished one book, you're craving more. She leaves you hungry. You never know what's coming next but you want it. She's always surprising and sometimes shocking you but you know these things really happen. Fascinating, absolutely fascinating. by Petra Robertson
