Review by Mateja @ Lost Without Books5

mateja I have been a fan of the Soul Screamers series since the first book. And each time Rachel Vincent wrote a new book in the series since My Soul to Take, I said it was the best one ever. The same stands with If I Die. It is absolutely, incredibly amazing. Immediately after reading it for the first time, I went and read it again. And then I went and reread all my favorite parts. Which was basically the entire book. I love, LOVE it.

Ever since reading the premise of this book I have gone through the possibilities of Kaylee's future over and over in my head. I thought I had them all covered. But despite my intense thinking and guessing Rachel Vincent still managed to surprise me. And surprise me she did. My jaw literally dropped on many occasions, there was also gasping and yelling Oh, no! and What!?. I loved every single moment of it.

I cried a lot while reading If I Die and not only while I was reading it for the first time. It has so many emotional scenes, so many wonderful, beautiful moments. All that on top of a fast paced, intriguing plot, very lovable characters, absolutely amazing writing and the romance (oh, the romance) makes this book pure perfection in my eyes.

I love Kaylee, how perfectly flawed she is, if that makes any sense. She doesn't always say the right thing, do the right thing, she's not impervious to fear. But she's smart and resourceful, incredibly brave, sympathetic and caring. She is really easy to care about and there is a lot to admire about her. And Tod. Tod! He is most definitely the most awesome guy in the fictional world. In If I Die he shows his more vulnerable side, which I love. Now he's not only sarcastic, witty and generally amazing, he also has a soft side. In one word, he's perfect. If only he weren't dead. And fictional.

I love the direction this series is taking. I could not be happier with the way things turned out in If I Die. It is everything that I wanted and more. Much more. And with Rachel Vincent's talent to always write a book that is even better than the last one, I am absolutely craving Before I Wake. I am so excited to read it that summer 2012 can't come too soon. by mateja

TeensReadToo Kaylee is just starting to get her life back to normal - again - when she walks in on her dad and Tod talking. Tod has seen the death list for that week, and Kaylee's on it! Determined not to let her last six days be for nothing, she decides to fix one more wrong at her high school.

The new math teacher, Mr. Beck, is an incubus and is set on having a son - by mating with a student! When Mr. Beck sets his sights on Emma, Kaylee knows that this will be her last good deed before she dies. With the help of Sabine, her frenemy, she sets out to get rid of Mr. Beck. But on the way, something in her love life surprises her!

Ooh....this book was a roller coaster of emotions! Sad and depressing one minute, then happy and giddy the next. I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to know if Kaylee was really going to die, and if so, how! The ups and downs with Nash continued, and there was one moment where I really didn't like Nash again.

**Warning! Spoilers - Read at your own risk!

I had thought about Kaylee and Tod together before but I wasn't really sure how I felt about them as couple. But after seeing how Tod felt about Kaylee and her reaction to him, I'm glad that they came together. I didn't particularly like HOW they had their first kiss, since I am extremely against cheating, but I loved how Tod always protected Kaylee and put her first. And the ending. Wow! I kept saying "No, Kaylee can't die! It can't be over!" But I should have known that death is never really the end. I liked the ending. It fit well and was sort of a happily-ever-after (with the whole Tod thing, minus the whole Nash thing). by TeensReadToo
