    A fall from grace1

Stephen Taylor Once upon a time Frank Miller was a great comic writer, sadly a lot of time has passed and now he throws this sort of dross upon the page.

Although he has always had politically right leanings evident within his work such as The Dark Knight Returns and 300, this is such extreme right wing rantings that it is quite shocking. It is quite obvious why DC decided to withdraw Batman from the story rather than having him as the main character as originally planned.

The plot centres around Islamic terrorists and a pseudo Batman seeking revenge for a bombing carried out by poorly sketched (literally and methaphorically) and is very poorly constructed with very little cohesion. The artwork is exceptionally ugly which I suppose fits the tone of the piece, with thick lines and scrawled characters which come across as something to be found on a students doodles rather than a professional comic artist and quite often is is almost impossible to see what it is actually supposed to represent.

Overall if you like extremist right wing rants, Islamophobia and a story with no redeeming features this is the book for you, if you like a decent plot, well written characters, decent artwork and a plot with some form of structure then this is definitely not the book for you. by Stephen Taylor
