Reviews for Hallowed
Hallowed was a marvelous follow-up to Unearthly!
Hallowed was a marvelous follow-up to Unearthly!
It blew me away, pulling me in from start to finish in a way that was extremely beautiful, frightening, and heartbreaking! Everything I liked about Unearthly became everything I loved about Hallowed! The writing was stronger, skillful, and unbelievably stunning. The romance was intensified and the fantasy/mystery aspects hooked me! I fell in love with every single character even more and I'm dying for the next book!
With any sequel you hope for the story to mature and grow, but to be completely honest I was nervous to begin reading Hallowed. I liked Unearthly, but I wasn't in love with it. So I was expecting much of the same, but Hallowed ended up blowing me away! Hallowed exceeded my expectations! It matured in every way possible. In Unearthly I felt that Clara was somewhat boring for an angel and her focus on Tucker and Christian was frustrating considering everything she had to do. But this time around Tucker didn't change, Clara did, and that made for a different mood. Plus Christian finally hit all the right buttons for me. I'm torn between the two in a way I never thought possible. Without any pressure on Clara to necessarily be around Christian, their relationship became something genuine and intense. I loved Tucker, but Christian's hard to ignore now after everything they went through together in book two. Toward the end Tucker's presence sort of waned for me. The ending between them killed me! Clara's an angel, Tucker's human, and I think Christian might be better for her now. If you're a Tucker fan then you might be very unhappy. And Clara's so much of an angel in this installment that I forgot she was part human. She learns who she really is and how to harness the powers inside of her. Basically I finally see what everyone was talking about. Clara's an amazing character and I'm sorry for ever doubting her.
Now, let's talk about the plot, because last time I felt Unearthly was lacking in that area. In Hallowed there was never a dull moment, and I could see the overall progression of the plot as a strong fierce line that never faltered.
Something else Hallowed accomplished that Unearthly did not was the intense amount of emotions. There are scenes in this book that ripped my heart out! There are scenes that made me laugh and smile. There are scenes that were creepy, desperate and terrifying. Basically this book rocked! I also really enjoyed the addition to other characters. In book one there was an excessive amount of attention on Christian, and that didn't necessarily amount to anything since everything changed. But in book two Christian was just one of the characters, one among many, and the connection I formed with them affected me in away Unearthly did not. Jeffery, Tucker, Clara's mom, and even Clara's dad (you'll have to read the book to know what I mean) - everyone was as much a part of this book as Clara. It made the overall reading experience that much more forceful!
Those who loved Unearthly will downright devour Hallowed! If you're on the edge like I was give this a try anyway, because you're sure to be blown away!
Overall Hallowed was a brilliant addition to the Unearthly series and I'm in dire need of book three! by Shana @ Sizzling Reads
