Seventeen hundred years ago, an unknown monk or scribe copied a gospel detailing the last three days of Jesus' life from the perspective of Judas Iscariot. Condemned as heretical, the "Gospel of Judas" faded from view and the codex containing its only known surviving copy was hidden in a cave in the Egyptian desert. Ever since the discovery of the "Dead Sea Scrolls" and the Gnostic texts of Nag Hammadi, large numbers of the reading public have sought out books that explore the many gospels and religious teachings left out of the official canon."The Gospel of Judas'" central idea - that Judas was Christ's favourite and that he was asked by Jesus himself to set off the events that led to the Crucifixion and Resurrection - has been the subject of much discussion in the world's faith communities since the announcement of the gospel's discovery in 2006. The English translation of the "Gospel of Judas" published here is based on the collaborative work of Rodolphe Kasser, marvin Meyer, and Gregor Wurst, along with Francois Gaudard.
