Intense Hero...with an unlikely heroine..3.5 stars!
Conrad Wroth is a crazed vampire assassin on verge of insanity bent on killing his three brothers but instead is taken captive and imprisoned in a manor by them. They plan to cure their brother of his bloodlust and insanity.
Neomi Laress is a phantom once a famous ballerina, murdered savagely by her ex-fiancee at her manor. Imbued with supernatural powers, she haunts the place since.
Neomi encounters beings more terrifying than her in the new tenants of her manor, vampires. Three vampires have imprisoned their brother, Conrad the most terrifying of them and he might have actually seen her. He is violent, mad and a killer; filthy with mud and blood and he has destroyed her home with his rages yet Neomi finds herself drawn to him. She soon learns more about the tenants and is plagued with more questions about Conrads and his state. Conrad continues to suffer the nightmares from all the memories he's drunk with little grip on reality but he realize that his lucidity improves with the presence of the being of unknown source; from the memories or a hallucination. Probably one of the many shadowy figures that he constantly sees.
Neomi gets the vampire to communicate with her after she finds out that he could indeed see her and hear her. With time, Conrad finds himself desiring her and she caring for him. His mind is getting clearer and anger controllable but he can't hope for the best because he has a curse to remove and bears a secret the Woede brothers will kill to obtain. Something arouses him inside upon watching Neomi dance, he figures that Neomi is his bride and he begins to care and feel protective of her.
Conrads things to do list: Get free. Execute Tarut, Figure out how to resurrect Neomi
She has betrayed Conrad, hiding from him the means to get free, keeping him as a prisoner here. Neomi had only wanted to protect Conrad and his brothers but got hurt instead. Determined to prove against his last words to her, she gets Mariketa to temporarily embody her. The curse; his most fervent dream will materialize and will be lost. The first part had happened when he sees Neomi in body and flesh. As they feed their desires, they begin to fall for each other but they both keep secrets that are interconnected; a secret that threatens their life together. Apart from the fact that she's mortal of course. Conrad knows she feels for him but can't seem to wash away the feeling that she's leaving him soon and he wants to put a claim on her... Neomi can sense her end nearing and yearns for more time with him but fate decides the final course when Conrads nightmare comes true.... Will Noemi survive?

Overall this was a good read. I really loved Conrads Intense personality and Neomis bright personality was fun though not as exciting as the other IAD female leads. I found it a little dragging with most part of the plot played in Élancourt, I miss the adventures I love in Cole's books.
Enjoyed the appearance of Mariketa and the heartwarming relationship between the Wroth brothers especially Nikolai as well the tease with Kristoffs appearance.
The ending was amazing as well, from the scenes with Mari and Bowen.... by Syamanthra
