  Writing from a first person perspective is something not all that common in the fantasy genre, and I had my reservations going into the first few chapters, however after a half dozen it really grew on me and it adds a lot to the way the reader visualises the events throughout. The fact that it's so gritty and harsh helps the reader to put themselves into the characters, this isn't a fantasy epic of good versus evil, it's soldiers fighting because it's their life, and that adds a lot of realism that's often missing in fantasy novels. by Chris Blyth
